Rosé has teamed up with Bruno Mars for a new duet titled "APT.," but what exactly does "APT." mean in the context of the song?

Since Rosé announced her debut solo album, fans have eagerly anticipated the sound and direction of the project. Would it follow the high-energy style of BLACKPINK's biggest hits, or resemble her more introspective 2021 solo track "On the Ground"? As it turns out, "APT." with Bruno Mars offers something entirely unique.

So, what is the meaning behind "APT."? The title is a romanized abbreviation of the Korean term "아파트" (pronounced "apateu"), which translates to "apartment" in English. Interestingly, "APT." is also the name of a popular Korean drinking game often played in apartments.

In an interview with Vogue, Rosé explained the inspiration behind the track: "'APT.' is a Korean drinking game that I love to play with my friends. We were hanging out in the studio, and I thought, why not teach them some Korean drinking games? That's how the song started."

To play the game, participants chant "apateu" while placing their hands in a circle, and whoever is last to put their hand on top of the pile has to take a shot. After playing the game, Rosé and Bruno turned the experience into the basis of the song. Initially unsure about writing a song centered on a drinking game, Rosé admitted: "I went home thinking, 'Is this too lighthearted?' But when people loved it, we finished it."

Lyrically, "APT." uses the drinking game as a playful metaphor for attraction. The chorus features lines like Rosé's, "Kissy face, kissy face / Sent to your phone, but / I'm tryna kiss your lips for real," while Bruno adds, "Turn this apateu into a club / I'm talkin' drink, dance, smoke, freak, party all night." The song is peppered with Korean phrases, such as "건배, 건배" (meaning "cheers, cheers").

Rosé and Bruno Mars’ collaboration highlights their playful energy while adding cultural depth, turning a casual drinking game into a catchy, globally resonant track.
