Colombian singer-songwriter J Balvin, born José Álvaro Osorio Balvin, will be honored with the prestigious Billboard Spirit of Hope Award at the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards, set to air on Sunday, October 20, on Telemundo.
Named in honor of the late Selena Quintanilla, the award recognizes artists who have made significant humanitarian contributions beyond their musical careers. Balvin is being recognized for his impactful philanthropic work through the Vibra En Alta Foundation, which focuses on empowering young individuals by supporting their educational and creative development. “I’m so grateful and honored to receive such a special award,” Balvin stated. “It’s important for me, both as an artist and as the dreamer I once was, to support and guide the next generation. The Vibra En Alta Foundation has spearheaded several initiatives in Colombia, including the creation of service centers, a community stage called “Tarima Arte Vivo,” and a dance school, “El Balcón de Los Artistas.” The organization is also building the “Medellín Music Lab,” a public recording studio aimed at nurturing local musical talent.
Balvin, who is scheduled to perform at the 2024 awards ceremony, joins a distinguished list of past Spirit of Hope Award recipients, including Carlos Santana, Shakira, Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, and Daddy Yankee, among others.
In addition to receiving the award, J Balvin will headline the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Week in Miami Beach, taking place from October 14-18. The event will feature a lineup of top Latin music artists, including Feid, Gloria Estefan, Alejandro Sanz, Maria Becerra, and Peso Pluma.
