Concord has announced the acquisition of key elements of Daddy Yankee’s music publishing and master recording catalog, including major hits like "Gasolina," "Con Calma," and "Despacito." The deal, covering Daddy Yankee's work from 2002 to 2019, also includes certain rights to his name, image, and likeness. The catalog will be managed from Concord's Miami office, adding to the company's extensive collection of over 1.3 million songs, composed works, and active recordings.
Daddy Yankee, born Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, first gained widespread recognition with his 2002 album El Cangri.com, which included the hit single “Latigazo.” However, it was his 2004 album Barrio Fino, featuring the groundbreaking single "Gasolina," that solidified his position as a global music icon. Barrio Fino was the first reggaeton album to reach No. 1 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart, dominating the charts for nearly a year and becoming the best-selling Latin album of the 2000s.
In 2017, Daddy Yankee further expanded his global reach with his collaboration on the smash hit "Despacito" alongside Justin Bieber and Luis Fonsi, which tied the record for the longest consecutive No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100. He continued his success with the multi-platinum single “Dura” in 2018 and "Con Calma" in 2019.
"Daddy Yankee has been a driving force in both reggaeton and pop music as a whole," said Concord CEO Bob Valentine. "We are excited to collaborate with him and continue building on his remarkable legacy. His lasting cultural impact is undeniable, and we are proud to play a role in his ongoing story."
Concord plans to further expand its presence in Latin music through strategic acquisitions and partnerships, with a continued focus on signing top-tier talent from its Miami office.
